Terra and Chef Mike Davis Celebrate Eight Years with Eight Special Dishes, Aug. 1-8

COLUMBIA, SC – Terra, which specializes in Chef Mike Davis’s seasonal preparation of Southern dishes using local products, is planning to celebrate the restaurant’s eighth anniversary August 1- 8, 2014 with a unique menu of eight dishes that represent cookbooks, chefs, mentors and experiences that have inspired Davis over the years.
Diners have the opportunity to enjoy these dishes alongside several signature Terra dishes for one week only. Members of the public have the opportunity to share their favorite Terra dishes and experiences through the years via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (@TerraSC) through July 31 for the chance to win dinner for two at Terra.
Examples of offerings on this special menu include:
– A special wood-oven pizza inspired by Chef’s first kitchen job at DePalma’s, an Italian restaurant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
– A riff on the Down South egg roll at Magnolias of Charleston, where Chef’s serious interest in food began.
– Coriander shrimp with black bean cake inspired by James Beard Award-winning Chef Susan Spicer and her restaurant, Bayona, in New Orleans, where Davis learned the ins and outs of a chef-driven restaurant.
– Baked grits with country ham and wild mushrooms, a favorite dish of Chef Frank Stitt’s. Davis found a love for bistro cooking while working at Stitt’s Chez Fonfon in Birmingham, Alabama.
“So many of the seasonal dishes at Terra are inspired by other kitchens I’ve had the opportunity to work in before opening Terra,” said Chef Mike Davis. “But cookbooks, by Alice Waters, Paul Bertolli and more as well as some of the places I’ve travelled have inspired me, and I’m excited to prepare some things that are a little out of the norm for Terra to honor those influences and thank our diners for eight great years.”
